Frederick Ramirez, 57, Avid Sports Enthusiast

Photo of Frederick  Ramirez Frederick Ramirez, 57, of Lorain stepped into eternal life Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 17, 1952 in Lorain.

He was raised in Lorain and was a graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School, class of 1970. While attending high school, he lettered in football, baseball and wrestling.

He was a member of the Frank’s Rec/Dobney’s Ohio State Championship men’s fast pitch softball team that was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame. He was a passionate weight lifter and competed in numerous power lifting competitions. He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed motorcycles and corvettes.

Mr. Ramirez was the co-owner of Bayside Fitness Center in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and had owned Pumping Iron Gym, Lorain, Subway restaurants on Oberlin Avenue and East 42nd, Lorain and Joyce’s Subs in Elyria.

He was the beloved son of Enrique and Isabel Ramirez (nee Maltos) of Lorain. Brother to Richard and Anthony Ramirez of Amherst and Jean Florell of Orlando, Florida. He was also the uncle to sixteen nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Edward Paul Ramirez in 2005, paternal grandparents Maximino and Maria (nee Silva) Ramirez, maternal grandparents Robert and Anna (nee Popovich) Bonzar and Jesse Maltos.

His family will receive friends call Friday, Feb. 27, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 E. 31st Street, South Lorain. Closing prayers will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday February 28 followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. in St. John Roman Catholic Church, Homewood Dr. And Grove Ave (Rt. 57), Lorain. Rev Fr. Thomas R. Smith, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
