Harry A. Strickler, 87, Enjoyed Hunting and Fishing

Photo of Harry A.  Strickler Harry A. "Cooner" Strickler, 87 of Vermilion died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Cleveland Clinic after a short illness.

He was born April 4, 1921 in Lorain and has been a Vermilion resident for the past 41 years moving from Lorain.

He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Italy and Northern Africa during WWII. He had earned the rank of Sergeant and received 4 Bronze Stars and the good conduct medal.

Harry had been an electrician with Local IBEW #129 for 55 years retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Harbourtown Community Church. He was a charter member of the Amvets Post #22 in Vermilion and a life member of the VFW Post #451 Lorain. His passion was for the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his son, William (Joyce) Strickler of Holiday, FL; daughters: Karen (Wayne) Cassidy of Lorain, Nancy (Scott) Kranstuber of Madison, OH; Penny (John) Shreve of Vermilion; and Heidi Strickler of Vermilion; step-daughter, Elaine (John) Johnson of Elyria; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Jake Strickler of Amherst; and sister Wilma Cherry of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joann in 1987; son, Jerry Strickler in 2004; parents, David and Hattie (nee Jackson) Strickler; brothers, David "Bob", Claude, and Jerry Strickler; and sister, Dorothy Bronner.

Friends may call Friday, March 13, 2009 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St. Vermilion. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Riddle Funeral Home at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jim Cooper, pastor of Harbourtown Community Church, officiating, and Heidi Strickler, daughter co-officiating. Inurnment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military graveside honors.
