George F. Maziarz, 61, Enjoyed Golf and Reading

George F. Maziarz, 61 of Lorain, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at home following a brief illness.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1948 in Zarzecze, Poland, moving to Lorain at age 2.

George graduated from Lorain Admiral King in 1966 and received a degree in sociolgy from Ohio University. He also served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1970.

George held various work positions, including US Steel, where he was known as 'Radar', PC Campana and Lorain County. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church as well as the United Polish Club, PLAV and PACC, all in Lorain. He enjoyed golfing, reading and collecting.

He is survived by his mother, Sophie (nee Nadzieja) Maziarz of Lorain; daughters, Lauren Maziarz of Chicago, Illinois and Leah Maziarz of Lorain; sister, Jeannette Strukely of Elyria.

He was preceded-in-death by his father, John S. Maziarz.

Friends may call on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain (246-2314). Closing prayers will be said on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain. The Reverend Robert J. Glepko, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
