Alice Alberta Brownson, 87, Enjoyed Knitting Afghans

She was born to Alice Eliza Hyde (nee Sims) and Charles Oren Pond on Dec. 30, 1921 in Hornell, New York and graduated from Wayland High School in 1939.
She married Wesley James Brownson in 1939. The couple move from Lackawanna, New York to Lorain in 1958 when her husband took employment with the Lorain Ford Plant.
Known affectionately as "Bertie" or "Gram", she was a dedicated home maker who enjoyed knitting slippers and afghans for her loved ones. She was a long time member of the former Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church.
Bertie is survived by her son, Roger James Brownson and his wife Judy, of Lorain; her sister, Edna C. Adams (nee Pond) of Thomasville, Georgia; her grandchildren and their spouses, Gary A. (Sharon) Cecil, Brenda D. (William) Watkins (nee Cecil), Daniel J. (Marleen) Cecil, David J. (Alison) Brownson and Krista (Shanus) O'Rourke (nee Brownson); seven great grandchildren, one great grandchild and nieces and nephews.
In 1975, Bertie was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years Wesley James Brownson. She was also preceded in death by her brother Donald C. Pond, and her daughter Marcia Alice Buckley (nee Brownson) in 1994.
Friends may call Monday, March 30, 2009 from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 West 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor of the Christian Temple Disciples of Christ Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Avon, Ohio.
