Wayne D. Cassidy, 66, Enjoyed Fishing and Bird Watching

Born May 22, 1942 in Vermilion, he grew up in Vermilion and graduated from Vermilion High School in 1960. He has lived in Lorain for the past 31 years.
Wayne served in the United States Navy from 1961-1966. He was stationed at the Naval Submarine Medical Center in Groton, Connecticut as hospital corpsman.
For 25 years he worked for the US Post Office in Amherst, both as a carrier and most recently as a postal supervisor, retiring in 1992. Following his retirement with the postal service, he worked as a courier for Lorain National Bank.
Wayne was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Lorain, Amvets Post 451 in Lorain and IOF. He enjoyed following the Cleveland Cavs and Indians, fishing and bird watching, especially the bald eagles and red tail hawks. He especially enjoyed the activities shared with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Karen (nee Strickler) of Lorain; daughter, Dawn Cassidy and son, Mark Cassidy, both of Lorain; grandchildren, Kyle, Taylor, Corbin and Connar; sister, Marilyn Chavalia of Grafton; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded-in-death by his parents, Jess and Bonnibel (nee Crumb) Cassidy, brother William Cassidy and sister, Patsy Ann Parker.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain (440) 246-2314. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 11 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ, 715 Reid Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Phil Kunz, pastor, and Reverend Heidi Strickler, Wayne's sister-in-law, will co-officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Ridge Hill Cemetery.
