Ada Cherney, 87, Real Estate Agent

Photo of Ada  Cherney Ada Cherney (nee Dawson), 87, of Elyria, died peacefully Wednesday April 1, 2009 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria.

She was born Feb. 28, 1922 in Nebo, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Alice Dawson (nee Sears). Ada was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church for 20 years and attended St. Jude Catholic Church for the last 38 years.

Ada was a real estate agent who worked for several companies in Elyria, most recently Howard Hanna. She was very successful during her 48-year career in real estate. In many cases, her customers were so pleased with her professional services that they purchased and sold multiple homes through her. There are a few homes in the area that she sold three times.

She is survived by her two sons David Cherney (Anne) of Wadsworth and Kenneth Cherney of Elyria and granddaughter Lauren Cherney of New York City. She was preceded in death by many brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends Friday 5 - 7 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar St, Elyria. The Rev. Frank P. Kosem, pastor, will celebrate the mass. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. A reception for family and friends will follow at St. Jude Church.
