Paul D. Woskobunik Sr., 60, Vietnam War Veteran

Paul D. Woskobunik, Sr, 60, of Sheffield Township, died Wednesday April 1, 2009 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after he lost his battle with cancer.

He was born Nov. 18, 1948 in Elyria and had been a lifelong Lorain/Sheffield Township area resident.

Paul served with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Paul worked as a millwright at LTV Steel in Cleveland and US Steel in Lorain. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain, American Legion, VFW Post #7576 and AMVETS Post #22, all of Vermilion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.

He is survived by his son Paul Woskobunik, Jr. (Suzanne) of Winchester, Virginia, daughters Tina Woskobunik and Terri Woskobunik, both of Lorain, grandsons Zachary Woskobunik of Winchester, Virginia and Kyle Woskobunik of Lorain, sister Sheryn Serback of Sheffield Township and brothers John Michael Woskobunik of Sheffield Township, Anthony Woskobunik, Sr of Catlett, Virginia and Joseph Woskobunik of Chagrin Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Elizabeth Woskobunik (nee Rusnak), sisters Elizabeth Ann Demiere, Joanne West and Shirley Woskobunik and brother Sonny Woskobunik.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 2 - 4 p.m., 7 - 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. Sr. Pat Adams, chaplain of New Life Hospice, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Avon where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors. A reception for family and friends will follow at St. Lad’s Club, 4221 Clinton Ave., Lorain.
