Concetta J. Hoffman, 91, Enjoyed Spending Time with Grandchildren

Photo of Concetta J. Hoffman Concetta J. Hoffman (nee Cicco) age 91, of Lorain, died Thursday April 2nd, 2009 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following a brief illness.

Mrs. Hoffman was born in Lorain on Dec. 8, 1917 and had been a life-long resident of the city.

Concetta was a graduate of Lorain High School; she went on to enlist in the United States Navy and was recognized as the first female resident of Lorain to enlist in the armed forces during World War II; she served as a Yoeman First Class.

Mrs. Hoffman was most recently employed as a bookkeeper for the Gel Pak Company of Lorain. She had also previously served in that capacity for several other local businesses.

Concetta was a parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain whose favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren. Additional interests included sewing, gardening, and working with ceramics. She also enjoyed reading books that were listed on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Survivors include her son Robert J. Hoffman of Elyria, son Richard A. Hoffman and his wife Gisela (nee Fontanez) of Lorain, and grandchildren Matthew, Richard, Joshua, and Amanda.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Hoffman in 1995, by her parents Pietro and Maria (nee Bevaqua) Cicco, along with several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m. & 7 - 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel; a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue with the Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv., Associate Pastor of the parish presiding. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
