Dominick Mase, 23, Enjoyed Sports and the Outdoors
Dominick Mase was born in Lorain on May 28, 1986. He grew up in Fairview Park. While in grade school, he debuted on stage in a high school production of Oliver and continued performing in junior high and high school. He rollerbladed, skied, and snowboarded. In junior high, Dom played football and wrestled. Quite the outdoorsman, Dominick was a Boy Scout for several years and enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting with his father. Due to his illness, he forfeited wrestling and took up tennis, in which he lettered.
He graduated with the Class of 2004 despite his first diagnosis of leukemia in September, 2002. He was awarded the Norman J. Munday Memorial Scholarship for Outward Bound, which he used for a sea kayaking adventure in the Bahamas.
With his cancer in remission, Dominick moved to Columbus and attended Columbus State Community College. He worked hard in school, and majored in Carpe Diem.
In February 2007, the leukemia returned in the more aggressive form of AML and he moved home to receive treatment once again at the Cleveland Clinic. In May of 2007, Dom received a bone marrow transplant. He entered remission, became an avid cyclist, and moved to Kent to attend Kent State University.
In September of 2008, Dom was diagnosed with another form of AML. He returned to Fairview, living and loving life passionately. He was admitted into the Cleveland Clinic in March and passed away April 13, 2009 surrounded by his family.
This Cliff note view does not begin to express the phenomenal personality that was Dominick. He was energetic, fun, funny, expressive, outgoing, and full of life. Dominick never met a stranger. He took life for a ride.
Bereaved by many; everyone he touched, he touched their soul.
