Max Strnisha, 63, Veteran War Veteran

He was born Feb. 20, 1946 in Washington, Pennsylvania and had resided in Amherst Township for the past 32 years. He had moved to this area when he was 5.
Max attended Lorain High School and was a member of the Dukes club. He graduated from Admiral King High School in Lorain where he learned auto shop.
Max served with the US Army during the Vietnam War as an Sp4 in Company C, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Award of the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism.
He worked at US Steel in Lorain for 25 years as a pipe fitter in the #1 Pipe Mill and then for USS/Kobe for 5 years retiring in 1994.
Max enjoyed cars, gardening, fishing, boating and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Susan (nee Lengyel), son Tom (Katie) of Elyria, daughter Jamie Rohal (Brian) of Washington, DC, granddaughter Zoe Strnisha and twin sister Maxine Griffith of Sheffield Lake. He was preceded in death by his father Stanley in 2003 and mother Ruth (nee Clark) in 2005.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 4 - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel. Sister Rita Costello, chaplain of New Life Hospice, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
