Edward Brandies, 86, Local Tavern Owner & Former Ciy Councilman

Edward Brandies, age 86, of Amherst Township, and formerly of Lorain, died Saturday April 18th, 2009 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following an illness of one year.

Mr. Brandies was born in Lorain on June 25, 1922 and was a graduate of Lorain High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving in China during World War II. He was also an accomplished baseball player and participated extensively in a variety of amateur leagues throughout northern Ohio and the Great Lakes Region.

Mr. Brandies was a proud member of the Republican Party and was active in local politics where he formerly served as a member of Lorain City Council.

He was the proprietor of Eddie’s Bar which was located on Elyria Avenue for many years. He later worked for the Ohio Vending Company. Prior to establishing the tavern, he had worked in the family-owned Brandies’ Grocery Store.

Ed was a parishioner of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township. In his free time he enjoyed current events as well as following local and national politics.

He is survived by his wife Anne (nee Yenchi), by his daughter Andrea Brandies of Laurel, Maryland, by his son-in-law Greg Bartish of Amherst Township, by granddaughter Ann Margaret Brunkow and her husband Vince, by grandson Christopher Bartish and his wife Hye Young, and by great grandchildren Alexa & Catrina Brunkow, as well as Annie, Andrew, and Sarah Bartish.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Carolyn Bartish in 2008, by his parents Andrew and Theresa (nee Simulcik) Brandies, and by sisters Helen Wisneski and Agnes Stranan.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday April 24th in Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, Lorain.
