Agustin Nieves Sr., 86, AMVETS Post 42 Member
Agustin Nieves, Sr., 86 of Lorain, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in his home with his family following a brief illness.
He was born October 30, 1922 in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. He came to Lorain in 1951.
Mr. Nieves retired in 1984 from Standard Pipe Protection, Lorain. He worked there for 33 Years.
He served in Philippines wile in the Army during World War II. He earned the Asiatic – Pacific Theater Metal and the American Theater Metal as well as the World War II Victory Metal. He served in the Puerto Rican National Guard until 1951.
Mr. Nieves Was a member of Templo Emmanuel Assembly of God, Lorain and its Men’s Society. He was also a member of the AMVETS Post 47, Lorain. He enjoyed fixing electronic gadgets and cooking. He also liked to walk his dog Nena.
He will be dearly missed by his son Agustin Nieves, Jr. of Lorain and his daughters Carmen Sonia and Sandra Nieves both of Lorain, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two nieces and many relatives in Puerto Rico.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years Maria (nee Luquis Rivera) Nieves in 1991, his son Jose Antonio Nieves in 1993 and his parents Ostaquio Pena and Salvadora Nieves.
His family will receive friends Friday from 2 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Templo Emmanuel, 4230 Clinton Avenue, Lorain. Were evening funeral services will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Temple. The Rev Daniel Reyes, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township, where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
