Frank Del Monico Sr., 93, Enjoyed Golf & Gardening

He was born November 18, 1915 in Sulmona, Italy and had resided in Lorain since he was 13 years old.
Frank worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and then served with the US Army during World War II. He served in New Guinea and Guadalcanal and was injured in action. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, the American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Ribbon.
Frank worked as a salesman/truck driver for Service Overall Company for 31 years retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain where he served as an usher for many years. He was a charter member of the Italian-American Veterans Post #1 in Lorain and served as chaplain for the funeral honor guard. He was a life member of IAV #1, Disabled American Veterans #20 and Veterans of Foreign Wars #451, all of Lorain.
Frank enjoyed golf and bowling and had bowled in several leagues. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, cutting the grass, playing cards and helping his son Pete at his barbershop in Lorain.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Rose (nee Vommaro), twin sons: Joseph Del Monico (Gina) of Lorain and Peter Del Monico (Linda) of Amherst, twin children: Frank Del Monico, Jr (Linda) of Lorain and Elizabeth Del Monico of Sheffield Lake, grandchildren Joseph Del Monico (Connie) of Lorain, Giavonni Del Monico of Vermilion, Jeffrey Del Monico (Tracey), Amanda Del Monico, Ashley Del Monico, all of Lorain and Kelly Fillip of Vermilion, great grandchildren Gino, Giavonni, Mia Isabella, Haleigh and Kyle and sister Rose Livingston of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Panfillio and Carmella Del Monico (nee Mastroni), brothers Alfred and Guido Del Monico and sister Linda Ofandiski.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 29, 2009, from 3-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where IAV #1 will conduct a prayer service on Thursday.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Chuck Henkle, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the IAV #1 will conduct military honors.
