Mary H. Linder, 92, Charter Member of St. Vincent de Paul Church

Photo of Mary H. Linder Mary H. Lindner, (nee Hodovan), of Lorain, and formerly of Elyria Township, died Thursday May 7th, 2009 at the home of her caregiver following an extended illness.

She was born in Lorain on March 15, 1917 and remained a life-long resident of Lorain County.

Mary was a graduate of Clearview High School. From 1966 to 1981 she was employed as a sales associate in the carpet department of the Higbee Department Store. She had previously been employed as the proprietor of Lindner’s Soda Bar as well as Lindner’s Dry Cleaning.

Mrs. Lindner was a charter member and parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and was also a member and former officer of the church’s Altar & Rosary Society. She volunteerd countless hours helping to bake nut rolls for church fund raising activities and also served as a classroom reader in the parish day school.

Mary was a member of St. Theresa’s Circle as well as the American Association of Retired Persons. She also served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross as well as the American Cancer Society.

In her free time Mrs. Lindner enjoyed flower gardening, solving crossword puzzles, and sewing.

Survivors include her son Jerry (wife Ann) residing in Kettering, Ohio and daughter Johnna Szep of Lorain, grandchildren Christopher David, Mary Elizabeth, and Jeffrey Alan, great grandchildren Katie, Sarah, and Justin, along with her sisters Goldie Mahilo of Vermilion and Eve J. Fox of Elyria.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1981, by her parents Istevan and Eva (nee Bolvari), Hodovan, and by brothers Stephen and Adam.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain where a rosary service will be conducted by the St. Vincent de Paul Altar & Rosary Society at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Rd., Elyria Township with the Reverend James R. Ols, Pastor of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
