Helen Rose Horchik, 92, Active St. Vincent de Paul Parishioner
Helen Rose Horchik, (nee Koleszar), age 92, of Lorain, died unexpectedly at Community Regional Medical Center on Saturday May 9th, 2009.
Helen was born in Lorain on Dec. 19, 1916 and remained a life-long resident of the city.
She was employed as a bookkeeper for Nielson Jewelers for twenty-six years retiring in 1970.
Mrs. Horchik was an active parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township. She was a long-time member of the church choir and also served in the Altar & Rosary Society there.
She was an ardent fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Indians, and Browns sports franchises. Additional interests included playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.
Helen is survived by her husband of seventy-four years John, by a sister Ella Bahn of Lorain, by a brother Steve Koleszar of Sheffield Village, by six nieces, four nephews, and a variety of great nieces and nephews as well as great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Steve Koleszar in 1939, and by her mother Helen (nee Bodnar) Koleszar in 1976.
Visitation will be Tuesday May 12th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. A rosary service will be conducted by the officers and members of the St. Vincent Altar & Rosary Society at the beginning of the visitation. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and will be followed by her funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township. The Reverend James R. Ols, Pastor of the parish will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
