Patricia C. King, 81, St. Joseph Hospice Volunteer

Patricia C. King (nee Plato), 81, of Lorain, died Monday May 18, 2009 in the medical intensive care unit at Community Health Partners Hospital in Lorain after a long illness.

She was born Dec. 25, 1927 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Patricia graduated from St. Mary Academy in Lorain in 1946. She worked in the St. Mary School office and at Becker Machine in Lorain as a secretary.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lorain. For over 30 years she held prayer groups at her home every other Tuesday. She invited the sick to stay in her home until they passed away and that led her to be one of the first volunteer’s with St. Joseph Hospice.

Patricia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and oil painting and had made many paintings of lighthouses including the Lorain Lighthouse. All her paintings had a small duck in one corner with the name P King under it.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years James King, sons: Jeff King (Molly) of Lorain, Chris King of Peoria, Arizona and Tim King (Pam) of Amherst, 7 grandchildren and brothers Mort Plato of Amherst and Chuck Plato of Marblehead. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul & Lucille Plato (nee Barkley) and sister Joan Donnar.

The family will receive friends Thursday 2 - 4 p.m., 6 - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 310 8th St., Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
