Rebecca Diaz, 89, Enjoyed Spending Time with Family

Photo of Rebecca  Diaz Rebecca Diaz, (nee Reyna), age 89, of Lorain, died Wednesday May 20th, 2009 at her residence following a brief illness.

Mrs. Diaz was born in Malakoff, Texas on July 5th, 1919 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1946.

She was employed as the head baker for the former Saint Joseph Hospital; she retired in 1975 following a career that spanned twenty-one years with the health care provider. She had formerly been employed by the United States Steel Corporation.

Mrs. Diaz was a parishioner of St. John Roman Catholic Church of Lorain; she was a founding member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Society at Sacred Heart Chapel and was also a member of the Crucilla there.

In her free time she enjoyed spending time with her family; additional interests included travel and dancing.

She is survived by daughters Mary Detling (husband Tim) of Mentor, and Christina Livengood of North Royalton, sons Peter T. Diaz of Lorain, Richard Diaz (wife Sandi) of North Ridgeville, Francis Diaz (wife Angela) and Mario Reyna (wife Louise) both of Lorain, along with twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Peter in 1994, by her parents Tomas and Juanita (nee Herrera) Reyna, by a granddaughter Monica Reyna, by a sister Evilia Palacios, and by her brother Abraham Reyna.

Friends may call on Monday May 25th, 2009 from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. A rosary service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the officers and members of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Society to close the visitation.

Funeral services will be Tuesday May 26th beginning with closing prayers offered in the funeral chapel at 9:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. John Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Thomas Smith presiding. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
