Judy Cantu, 93, Enjoyed Spending Time with Grandchildren
Judy Cantu (nee Dongarra), 93, of Lorain, died Wednesday June 3, 2009 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain after a lengthy illness with Alzheimers Disease.
She was born Aug. 15, 1915 in Lorain and then moved to Italy where she lived for 10 years until the age of 14. She moved back to Lorain and had resided there the rest of her life.
Judy worked at Kline’s Department Store in Lorain as a sales clerk. Prior to that she had worked at Bazleis Meat Market, the Palace Theater and DeLuca Bakery, all of Lorain.
Judy was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter and the Italian-American Veterans Club #1, both of Lorain. She volunteered regularly at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lorain and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son Ralph Cantu of Elyria Township, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and sister Josephine Gonzalez (Jesse) and Connie Versace, both of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband Tony L. Cantu in 2004, son Tony V. Cantu in 2003, parents Vincent & Maria Dongarra (nee Giloimello), brother Louis Dongarra and sisters Mary Sparks and Grace Sikora.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of prayer services at 10:30 a.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Chuck Henkle, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
