Emilio C. Garza, 63, USS Kobe Millwright & Certified Welder

Photo of Emilio C. Garza Emilio C. (a.k.a. Milt, a.k.a. Mike) Garza, age 63, of Lorain, died Sunday June 7th, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Garza was born in Lorain on May 12, 1946 and had been a life-long resident of the city.

He attended Clearview High School where he was a Varsity Letterman on the football team as well as a Letterman and Captain on the Clipper Wrestling Team. He also participated in choir, marching band, and the pep band; he graduated as a member of the Class of 1965.

He was employed as a millwright and certified welder at the Lorain-Cuyahoga Works of U.S. Steel Corporation. He retired from USS Kobe in 1998 following a career that spanned thirty-two years with the steel producer.

Mr. Garza was a parishioner of St. John Roman Catholic Church. He was an avid bowler participating in the St. Stanislaus Fraternal Bowling League hosted at the former Saxon Lanes, and also enjoyed league golf competition as a member of the St. Anthony Golf League.

Additional interests including sharing his gardening expertise with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of forty years Deborah (nee Williams), sons Michael and James (wife April) both of Lorain, daughters Donna Heuler (husband James) of Parma and Sally Garza residing in Brooklyn, grandchildren Daniel, Emily, and Joseph, honorary grandchildren Olivia and Nicholas, and by sisters Maria Acosta of San Antonio, Texas, and Rosemary Ladd (husband Raymond) of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Olivia (nee Siller) Garza, by his brother John, and by his sister Margarita Rivera.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in St. John Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Thomas Smith, Pastor of the parish presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
