Ruth Elizabeth Keep, 103, Member of First United Methodist Church

Photo of Ruth Elizabeth  Keep Ruth Elizabeth Keep, 103 (Nee Miller) died peacefully on June 13th, 2009 at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria.

Born Jan. 15th, 1906, she grew up on Dewey Avenue in Elyria and lived for many years on Hawthorne Avenue in Lorain.

Ruth was the widow of Andrew MacArthur Keep Esq. whom she married in 1935. They had two children, Randall MacArthur, who was lost at birth, and Sara Ellin. Ruth and Andy traveled the world together and were devoted to each other. Andy preceded Ruth in death in 1983.

After attending Baldwin Wallace College and specializing in French and Latin, Ruth received a Master of Arts, studying first at Columbia Teachers College in New York City and then graduating from Western Reserve University. Ruth taught school until the time she was married.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lorain and was active in volunteering for numerous causes including the American Red Cross.

She is survived by, and was the beloved grandmother of, Douglas Allen Huszti of Brooklyn, New York and Hannah Elizabeth Vaughan of Buckingham, Virginia, whom she helped raise after the loss of their mother in 1970. She was the proud great-grandmother of Lia Huszti, Margaret Vauhan, Emily Vaughan, and Alexander Vaughan , who all survive her. The youngest of her great-grandchildren was born a little over a century after Ruth.

Ruth's generosity, wisdom, spirit, good-nature and wit will be sorely missed by all who knew her.


A Memorial Service will be July 29 at 1 p.m. at the Wesleyan Village, 807 West Ave., Elyria, Ohio 44035, with Revs. Stacy Terrell and Beth McKee officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice or Second Harvest Food Bank, 7445 Deer Trail Lane, Lorain, Ohio 44053-1982.
