Basil W. Palinski, 86, World War II U.S. Navy Veteran
Basil W. Palinski, age 86, of Lorain, died Tuesday June 16th at EMH Regional Medical.
He was born in Elyria on August 8th, 1922 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1949.
Mr. Palinski was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran serving as a Coxswain and Radio Technician in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
A parishioner of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Basil was employed as a machinist for the Thew Division of Koehring Company. He later founded Diversified Products, a machine shop that he owned and operated prior to his retirement.
In his free time he enjoyed gardening and working with his personal computer.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years Ann (nee Knezetic), sons Donald Palinski (wife Patricia) of Wakeman, and William Palinski (wife Barbara) of Lorain, grandchildren Timothy Palinski, Amy Palinski, and Jeremy Streem, great granddaughter Laine Streem, brother Eugene Palinski (wife Lois) of Huron, and sister Barbara Baker of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Catherine (nee McKara) Palinski, and sister Annabelle Curtis.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave. Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend David A. Novak, Parish Administrator of St. Stanislaus Church officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted by the officers and members of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
