Gladys White, 84, Enjoyed Flower & Vegetable Gardening

Photo of Gladys  White Gladys White (nee Bodkins), age 84, of Lorain, died Tuesday July 7th, 2009 at her residence.

She was born in Bowden, West Virginia on Oct. 31, 1924 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1953 coming from West Virginia.

Along with her husband, Gladys was employed as the co-owner and landlord for White Rentals in Lorain and was a member of the Lake Erie Landlord’s Association

In her free time she enjoyed swimming as well as flower and vegetable gardening. Additional interests included country music, and prospecting at local garage sales and thrift shops.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years Clyde, daughter Judy Szuch (husband Gary) of Lorain, granddaughter Jessica Szuch of Geneva, grandson Timothy Szuch of Lorain, brothers Leslie Herbert Bodkins of Elkins, W.Va., Lapel Clark Bodkins of Valley Head, W.Va., Aubrey Jackson Bodkins of Oberlin, Harvey Joe Bodkins of Amherst. Sisters Anna Leen Shifflett of Elkins, Roseleen Teter of Montrose, W.Va., and Cecelia Kesel Mullins of Baltimore, Maryland.

She was preceded in death by her son David White, by her parents Herbert and Pearl (nee Hoover) Bodkins, by brothers Forrest Francis Bodkins, Harry Joe Bodkins, and Donnie Lee Bodkins, and sisters Pally LaVon Goodwin, Elsie V. Edmond, and Monnie Lee Bodkins.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Robert Daugherty presiding. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
