Margaret Yandell, 92, Enjoyed Baking
Margaret Yandell (nee Slovak), passed away peacefully at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain on Saturday July 25, 2009.She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where she was a member of the Kitchen Crew and the Marian Guild. While living at Anchor Lodge she was a member of Anchor’s Angels Rosary Group and enjoyed playing bingo.
Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting, gardening and baking. Each St. Anthony feast day she would bake a few hundred loaves of bread to be blessed and shared. She will be especially remembered for the thousands of Grandma Cookies she baked and gave away. She gave cookies to family, to trick-or-treaters at Halloween and at church activities. She also baked thousands of cookies for the school activities of her children and grandchildren from preschool thru college.
Having lived through two world wars and the Great Depression, Margaret believed in living simple and sharing much. The news that upset her most was hearing about children going to bed hungry. She believed in sharing with food drives as a way of life.
She is survived by her daughters Carol Burton (Timothy) of Lorain and Theresa Gutshall (William) of Mansfield, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sister Theresa Martin of Old Bridge, New Jersey and nieces and nephews.
