Elizabeth M. Simonovich, 89, Avid Bowler
Elizabeth M. Betty Simonovich (nee Barash), 89, of Amherst, died Monday August 3, 2009 at Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake.
She was born Nov. 11, 1919 in Akron and had resided in Amherst since 1959.
Betty graduated from Kenmore High School in Akron in 1937. During World War II, she worked in a factory in St. Louis, Missouri and Washington DC.
Betty and her husband John were avid bowlers and participated in several leagues in the Lorain area and traveled to different bowling tournaments throughout the United States.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children James S. Simonovich (Marilyn) of Avon Lake, Richard A. Simonovich of Chicago, Illinois and Steven J. Simonovich of Amherst and grandchildren Lisa Udrija (Daniel), Katie Simonovich, John Simonovich and Ian Simonovich. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1984, parents Steven and Elizabeth Barash (nee Black) and brother Alex Barash in 2006.
The family will receive friends Thursday 3 - 5 p.m., 7 - 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:45 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr, Amherst. The Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
