William C. Wilson, 67, Collected Sports Memorabilia
William C. Wilson, 67, of Lorain, died Tuesday August 4, 2009 at Lake Pointe Health Center in Lorain after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born August 11, 1941 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Bill graduated from Lorain High School in 1959 and served with the US Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base for 4 years.
He worked at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake as a Henschel Operator for 35 years retiring in 1997.
Bill was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain where he served on church council. He was a member of American Legion #118 in Amherst and Eagles Aerie #1442 in Amherst where he volunteered at car shows, fish fries and cleaning around the building.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, working in the yard and collecting sports memorabilia. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Indians fan.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Darlene Wilson (nee McClain), children Bill Wilson (Denise) of Vermilion Township, Sherrie Smith (David) of Lorain and Wendy DiBiasio (Danny) of Amherst, grandchildren Cody, Caton, Timothy, Christopher, Daniel and Hannah, sister Gloria Jean Johnson (Don) of North Ridgeville and aunt Julia Hegedus of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent & Florence Wilson (nee Johannsen).
The family will receive friends Friday 4 - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Madsen, pastor of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lorain, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the VFW Post #451 and American Legion #30, both of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
