Reinaldo "Ray" Ralat, 70, Local Artist

Photo of Reinaldo Reinaldo “Ray” Ralat, 70 of Lorain passed away Saturday, Aug. 08, 2009 in New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Feb. 12, 1939 in Villalba, Puerto Rico. He came to Lorain 1969.

Ray worked in the maintenance department of Westlake Holiday Inn for 12 Years, before working At Tops Supermarket in Sheffield for 6 years.

He was a member of Principe De Paz Lutheran Church, Lorain. Ray was a well known local artist who painted several murals including the two artistic depictions of the map of Puerto Rico on Roman Grocery store and a larger one on the former Colmado Store, he also painted the Whittier Middle School Warrior on the wall of the gym. He was also painted several signs in South Lorain.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 25 years Noemi Ralat (nee Ramos), sons Luis Ralat of Villalba, Ricardo Ralat of Reading, Pennsylvania, Rey Josue of Fort Hood, Texas; daughters Yelena Morales of Elyria and Ana “Nina” Rios of Lorain; brothers Roberto Guzman, Luis, Jose and Efrain Ralat al of Villalba; a sister Carmen M. Perez of Newark, New Jersey and eight grandchildren.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents Felipe Ralat and Carmen Rivas, and brothers Pepito Cruz and Oscar Ralat.

His family will receive friends Monday from 5 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain (440) 277-8164. Rev. Mr. Tony Degracia, permanent deacon of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain.
