Nicholas M. Lengyel, 83, Received Purple Heart

Nicholas M. “Nick” Lengyel, 83, of Lorain, died Thursday Aug. 13, 2009 at New Life Hospice Center in Lorain.

He was born Dec. 5, 1925 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Nick served with the US Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in Headquarters Detachment 36th Signal Heavy Construction Battalion. He served in the Rhineland and Central Europe and was awarded the Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon w/2 Bronze Stars, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Nick worked as an independent contractor installing flooring for several carpeting and tile businesses in the area.

He is survived by his brother Al Lengyel, daughter Rosemary A. Lengyel, granddaughter Elizabeth Rose Lengyel and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

A private family funeral service will be held.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
