Emma A. Harkey, 89, Enjoyed Watching Birds & Traveling
Emma A. Harkey, 89, (nee Wessely) of Lorain died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009 in Anchor Lodge Retirement Village in Lorain, unexpectedly.
Mrs. Harkey was born in Ambridge, PA on Oct. 9, 1919, the daughter of the late Charles X. and Irma (nee Feher) Wessely.
She was a graduate of Ambridge High School in Ambridge PA. She was a devoted homemaker in the 1950's and 60's before joining the cleaning staff at the former Aquamarine Lodge in Avon Lake.
She enjoyed watching birds, and traveling. She especially enjoyed traveling to Zion National Park in Utah. She loved to laugh and found humor in most any situation. She will be remembered dearly by her daughter for her laugh and her endearing friendship.
Mrs. Harkey was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain.
She is survived by a daughter Jeanie Horton of Bristow, Oklahoma, son Michael Harkey of Lorain, grandsons Jerry and Casey Horton, her beloved sisters Eleanor Collett of Monroeville, PA., Gerry Laney of Topeka, Kansas, Peggy McLaurine of Mansfield.
Mrs. Harkey was preceded in death in 1994 by her husband Albert C. Harkey, sisters Irma Donegan, Pat Wessely, Alice Wessely, and a brother Charles Wessely.
A memorial mass is being planned for a later date.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Lorain County Habitat For Humanity, 105 Court St, Ste. 512, Elyria, OH 44035-5525.
