Albert S. Janik, 82, Enjoyed Fishing
Albert S. Al Janik, age 82, of Elyria Township, died Wednesday Aug. 26th, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness.
Al was born in Lorain on Feb. 10, 1927 and had been a resident of Elyria Township for his entire life. He was a graduate of Clearview High School.
He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy and had been formerly employed as a machinist for the Bendix Heavy Vehicle Services Group in Elyria; he retired from that position in 1980 following a career that spanned thirty years of service with the manufacturer. Following retirement, Al actively made his second home at Kelley’s Island.
Mr. Janik was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was also a member of the Kelley’s Island Historical Society. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and all types of repair work.
Survivors include sons Louis of Jacksonville, Florida, Paul of Elyria, and James of Lorain, by daughter Lois Burkiewicz of Lorain, nine grandchildren, three great grandsons, one great granddaughter, by sister Dorothy Super, and by his brother Ernest Janik.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy V. Janik (nee Kinder) in 2002, by his parents Marton and Gizella (nee Hoszereti) Janik, by sisters Stella Boris, Anna Dice, and Mary Betzel, and by a brother Steve.
Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township. Interment will take place in Kelley’s Island Cemetery.
