Gunnery Sergeant Michael B. Gornall, USMC, 34, Marine Corps Veteran
United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Michael B. Gornall, age 34, of Canfield, Ohio, and former Lorain County resident, died unexpectedly in Boardman Township, Ohio on Friday Aug. 28th, 2009.
Sergeant Gornall was born in Lorain, Ohio on Jan. 12, 1975 and was a 1994 graduate of Amherst Marion L. Steele High School. For the past fifteen years he had served in the United States Marine Corps including two tours of duty in Iraq.
Survivors include his wife of five years Nicola Dayani-Gornall, his father Michael (wife Nancy), brothers Christopher and Nicholas, sisters Rebecca and Nicole Newell, Shirley Lutz, Alice Fitzpatrick-Harris, and Brenda Smith, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Suzanne Gallagher-Newell, maternal grandparents James F. and Margaret M Gallagher, and paternal grandparents John D. and Valeria Gornall.
An avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Mike enjoyed fishing, and working with computers in his free time.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services and military honors will be observed Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel.
