Susan Zilka, 82, Enjoyed Ceramics & Traveling

Susan Zilka (nee Bailey), 82, of Sheffield Township, died Friday Sept. 4, 2009 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain.

She was born Sept. 12, 1926 in Pleasant City, Ohio and had resided in the Sheffield Township area since 1949.

Susan graduated from Elyria High School in 1946 and worked for a short time at General Industries in Elyria.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for 8 years and was a member of the Rosary Society and Ladies Guild of the church, and St. Ann Lodge #114.

Susan enjoyed ceramics and traveling.

She is survived by her daughter Patricia Bemis (Scott) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, grandson Brandon Ziroe of Highland Heights, great grandson Tyler Ziroe and sisters Olga Zilka and Ann Dominguez, both of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Zilka in 1974, son Keith Zilka in 2006, parents John and Maria Bailey (nee Hakos), brother Michael Bailey and sisters Ann Guiffre, Helen Noga and Mary Abraham.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 2 - 4 p.m., 7 - 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
