Louis M. Dineff, 86, World War II Veteran
Louis Dineff, 86, of Lorain passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 in his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Dineff was born Oct. 10, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan. He came to Lorain as an infant. He retired in 1982 as a roll setter in the Butt Mills and the Continuous Weld Mill at United States Steel, Lorain. He worked there for 43 years.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Navy for two and a half years. He saw action in the European African and Asiatic Pacific Theaters of war.
As a young man he loved sports, baseball and football especially the Indians and the Browns. He played softball with the Mish’s Sports after the war.
Mr. Dineff was a member of St. Vitus Croatian Catholic Church. He was also member of the United Steel Workers Local 1104, Lorain and the Croatian, Romanian, Slovenian, Ukrainian, Saint Lads, Hungarian Young Men’s and Czarnecki Clubs.
He is Survived by his wife of 58 years Donna (nee Derifay) Dineff of Lorain; son Louis M. (Peggy) Dineff of Lorain; daughters Darlene (the late Gary) Pongracz of Vermilion, Mary Lou (Dave Zeiter) Salas and Denise (Scott Law) Dineff both of Lorain; a brother James Dineff of Lorain; grandchildren Michael Salas II, Marcus Salas, Shawn Cruz, Gary Pongracz Jr., Nicole Dineff, Aaron Dineff and Courtney Dineff, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mial and Zvezda (nee Andres) Dineff, brothers Steve Bots Dineff and William Dineff.
His family will receive friends Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m in Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, (440) 277-8164. A Parish Rosary will be prayed Sunday evening at 6 p.m. in the funeral home. His funeral service and burial in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain will be private.
