Wanda G. Witkowski, 94, Enjoyed Cooking and Baking

Photo of Wanda G. Witkowski Wanda G. “Jennie” Witkowski (nee Sakowski), 94, of Lorain, passed away peacefully Saturday Sept. 19, 2009 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain.

She was born Aug. 23, 1915 in Lackawanna, New York and had resided in Lorain most of her life.

Jennie was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain. She was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, polka dancing and playing card games such as 66. She will be sadly missed by her family.

She is survived by her sons John “Skip” Witkowski (Joan) and Robert “Logger” Witkowski (Patricia), all of Lorain, grandchildren John Witkowski, Jr of Lorain and Laura Tomko (Jeff) of Dublin, great grandchildren Austin and Andrew Tomko and sister Helen Jaworski (John) of Amherst. She was preceded in death by her husband John “Red” Witkowski on January 13, 2000, parents Peter and Agnes Sakowski (nee Kapron), sisters Josephine Popa, Julie Dabrowski and Leona Sakowski and brothers Leo and Edward Sakowski.

The family will receive friends Sunday 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The funeral for Mrs. Witkowski will be in thanksgiving of her life on Monday at 9 a.m. at the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Robert J. Glepko, pastor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and the Rev. Gerald J. Keller, pastor emeritus of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
