Mary D. Nagy, 87, Active in DAV Chapter #20 Ladies Auxiliary
Mary D. Nagy (nee Doychak), 87, of Lorain, died Friday Sept. 18, 2009 at the Cleveland Clinic after a short illness.
She was born March 7, 1922 in Mingo Junction, Ohio and had resided in Lorain most of her life.
Mary worked for the Clearview Board of Education as an assistant cook at Vincent School for 16 years.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and the church Altar & Rosary Society.
Mary was active in veteran’s affairs. She was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans #38 Ladies Auxiliary, both of Lorain. She held all chairs in the DAV Auxiliary and served as commander for 5 terms. She was District Commander of the DAV 5th District for 5 years and served as the DAV representative to the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. She volunteered regularly at the Veterans Administration Hospitals in Brecksville and Cleveland.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and dancing.
She is survived by her children Richard S. (Barbara) Nagy, Thomas M. Nagy, David A. (Lori) Nagy and Patricia J. Somerville, all of Lorain, 15 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Mike Nagy in 1977, parents Andrew and Mary Doychak (nee Matyas), grandsons Thomas M. Smith and Patrick Healey, sisters Helen Mate and Irene Perkins and brother Andrew Doychak.
The family will receive friends Monday 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd, Elyria Twp. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, and the Rev. John Slatcoff, deacon, will concelebrate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
