Richard A. Schmidt, 72, Enjoyed Fishing and Hunting
Richard A. Schmidt, 72 of Vermilion, died Friday Oct. 2, 2009 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthy illness.He was born June 28, 1937 in Lorain, and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Schmidt retired in 1990 from Cotter Company in Westlake after 12 years, and previously worked at Republic Steel in Elyria for 18 years.
He was a veteran of the Army National Guard of Ohio and belonged to St. Mary Church in Lorain. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Patricia (nee Walters), also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Phyllis Schmidt, brother David Megyesy, sister Sharyll Herrington, and step-sister Geraldine Neeley.
Friends may call Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning with prayers at 9 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Lorain. Fr. Daniel Divis will officiate.
