Robert Earl Anderson, 78, Avid Sports Fan
Robert Earl Anderson, 78, of Lorain, passed peacefully on Monday Nov. 2, 2009 with family at his bedside at Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain after a week’s illness.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1931 in Old Washington, Ohio and had resided in Lorain most of his life.
He served with the US Army during the Korean War as a Corporal.
Bob worked at US Steel in Lorain in the #2 Seamless Mill as a foreman retiring in 1984 after nearly 41 years of service.
He was an avid sports fan following major professional sports teams. He enjoyed the company of his grandson David as well as the rest of his family and playing cards.
He is survived by his step-children Stephen W. Bansek (Lollie) of Lorain and Joan Shaffer of Clearwater, Florida, 19 step-grandchildren, 30 step-great grandchildren and 2 step great-great grandchildren, niece Pat Bennington of Lorain and nephew Ken Anderson of Kent.
He was preceded in death by his wife Theresa Bansek-Anderson (nee Jaskulski) in 1991, parents James and Clara Anderson (nee Stillion), step-son Edward A. Bansek, step-daughter Jeannette R. Vick and brothers Ralph Anderson and William Anderson.
The family will receive friends Thursday 2 - 3 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Robert J. Dybo, deacon of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
