Edward R. Kelley, 83, Enjoyed Farming

Photo of Edward R. Kelley Edward R. Kelley, 83, of Brownhelm Township, died Tuesday Nov. 3, 2009 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born July 5, 1926 in Lorain and had resided in Brownhelm Township since 1972.

Ed attended Holy Trinity School in Lorain. He served with the US Army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.

Ed worked as an inspector at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant for 30 years retiring in 1991. Prior to that he worked at Thew Shovel, Fruehauf Trailer and as a contractor building homes and built his own home in Brownhelm Township.

Ed was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain and St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion. He enjoyed bowling, being outdoors and farming.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years MaryAnn Kelley (nee Stanik), nephew George L. Knisely, Jr (Ruth) of Summerfield, FL and nieces Amelia Moldovan (Richard) of Vero Beach, FL and Janet Knisely of Elyria and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward P. and Stefana Kelley (nee Bash), brothers Pat Kelley, Art Kelley and Bernard Kelley, sisters Betty Wnek and Rosemary Kelley, nephews James J. Knisely and Franklin R. Knisely, brother-in-law Stephen J. Stanik, sister-in-law Mildred Knisely (George L.)

The family will receive friends Thursday 6 - 8:30 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, pastor of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lakewood, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the VFW Post #451 and American Legion #30 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
