Helen E. Sekular, 87, Member of the Board of Directors of Lorain Slovenian Club
Helen E. Sekular (nee Tomazic), 87 of Lorain, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 in Community Health Partners Regional Medical Center, Lorain following a brief illness.
She was born March 12, 1922 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. She moved to Lorain as an infant.
Mrs. Sekular was a member of the board of directors of the Lorain Slovenian Club, where Helen was a fish fry waitress for 25 years. She also made the cabbage and noodles for the fish fries. She was a member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church, Lorain and a officer of the church’s Lady’s Guild. Helen was a member of the Light Hearted Club for 77 years. She was also a member of S. N. P. J., the Slovenian Women’s’ Union, Lodges and the award winning Lorain Slovenian Drill Team.
Among the survivors is her daughter Linda Sekular of Lorain and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 Years Harry Sekular in 1977, her parents Lawrence and Mary (nee Galati) Tomazic, a brother Frank Tomazic and a sister Mary Klein.
Her family will receive friends Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, (440) 277-8164. Funeral services will be Monday, with closing prayers at 9:15 a.m. then Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 8th Street and Reid Avenue, Lorain Rev. James Becherer will officiate, Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain Ohio.
