Mary Louise Shawver, 59, Enjoyed Ceramics and Crafts

Photo of Mary Louise Shawver Mary Louise Shawver (nee Chovanec), 59, of Lorain, died Sunday Nov. 29, 2009 at Oak Hills Nursing Center in Lorain after a lengthy illness.

She was born June 28, 1950 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Mary Louise was a graduate of Admiral King High School in 1968. She worked as a department manager at Clarkins in Lorain and had also worked at Kmart and Hills. Later, she worked for Lorain city schools in the cafeteria at Lorain Middle School and Southview High School.

Mary Louise was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, a life member of the American Slovak Club, a member of St. Ann’s Lodge Br#114, the Jednota and Slovak Catholic Sokols. She enjoyed ceramics, crafts, camping, bingo, crossword puzzles, reading magazines, photography and playing games with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Stacey Heider (Jack, Jr) of Lorain, Joseph Shawver of Alabama and Ashley Shawver of Lorain, grandchildren Dylan Shawver of Lorain, Austin Shawver of Alabama, Peighton Heider and Destiney Heider, both of Lorain, brother Joseph Chovanec of Meridian, Texas, sisters Linda Lewyckyj and Judith Chovanec and brother John Chovanec, all of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her grandson Angel Shawver in 2005, parents Joseph and Virginia Chovanec (nee Staveski) and brothers Charles Chovanec in 1978 and Thomas Chovanec in 2008.

The family will receive friends Thursday 2 - 4 p.m., 7 - 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where St. Ann’s Lodge Br #114 will recite the rosary Thursday at 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Chuck Henkle, OFM Conv., associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
