Thomas D. Kuns, 68, Enjoyed Gardening & Wildlife

Thomas D. Kuns, age 68, of Lorain, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday January 2nd, 2010.

He was born in Sandusky, Ohio on December 20, 1941 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1963 coming from Clyde.

Tom was a graduate of Clyde High School and was also a graduate of the Toledo Barber College.

Upon arriving in Lorain he was employed at several local barber shops prior his purchase of Baker’s Barber Shop. The business was subsequently renamed Tom’s Barber Shop and continued to serve the citizenry of greater Lorain for many years.

A parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, Tom formerly served with the Ohio National Guard and was a past member of American Legion Post # 30 of Lorain. His business was also a sponsor for the Lorain Youth Baseball Program.

In his free time Mr. Kuns enjoyed feeding the birds and other forms of wildlife that visited his backyard. Additional interests included gardening, fishing, and talking about politics.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Margaret A. “Peggy” Kuns (nee Collins), by daughters Anne Cisar (husband Robert) of Lorain, Katie Gergely (husband Michael) of Vermilion, and Barbara Wallace (husband Matthew) residing in Oberlin, eleven grandchildren, by brothers Roger (wife Pat), of Sandusky, Richard (wife Ann) of Clyde, Gary (wife Mary) residing in Waterville, and Steve (wife Linda) of Bowling Green. He also is survived by sisters Beverly Crockett (husband Robert) of Clyde, Joyce Riegger (husband Otto) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Kathryn Ochs (husband Robert) of Sarasota, FL.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Dale & Ordean (nee Burkin) Kuns.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv., Parochial Vicar will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
