Gladys J. Perrier , 88, St. Joseph Hospital Volunteer-of-the-Year

Photo of Gladys J. Perrier Gladys J. Perrier (nee Graves), 88, of Lorain, died Monday Jan. 18, 2010 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain after a brief illness.

She was born Nov. 28, 1921 in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England and had resided in Lorain since 1926.

Gladys graduated from Lorain High School in 1940. She worked as a clerk at JC Penney in Lorain and at May Company in Sheffield Village.

Gladys was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, the St. Peter Holy Name Society and the St. Peter Seniors. She was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army Keenagers, a 25-year member and past president of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and the 1988 Volunteer-of-the-Year at St. Joseph Hospital.

Gladys enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

She is survived by her stepdaughter Linda Amato (Pat) of Lorain, grandsons Philip and Steven Amato, great grandchildren Nick and Cara Amato and brother Kenneth Graves. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred A. Perrier on June 10, 2003, grandson Mark Amato in 2004, parents Ernest & Jean Graves (nee Goodwin) and brother Ronald Graves.

The family will receive friends Thursday 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Charles Henkle OFM Conv., associate pastor of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Capital Campaign Fund at St. Peter Church, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH. 44053.
