Marie R. Fundak , 89, Enjoyed Playing Pinochle

Photo of Marie R. Fundak Marie R. Fundak (nee Spahia), 89, of Lorain, died Monday Jan. 18, 2010 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

She was born Feb. 1, 1920 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Marie graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1938A. During World War II, she worked at US Steel in Lorain in the Coupling Shop.

Marie was a life member of St. Vitus Catholic Church in Lorain and had recently joined the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain. She was a member and past president of the Lorain Serosis Club and a member of KSKJ Slovenian Lodge #85. She enjoyed going to dances and playing cards especially Pinochle.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years John R. Fundak, daughter Denise Fundak of Roselle, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph & Rose Spahia (nee Kuzmich), brother Frank Spahia and sister Anne Hura.

The family will receive friends Wednesday 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
