James Nagy, 89, Enjoyed Dancing and Bowling
James Nagy, 89, of Lorain, died Thursday January 21, 2010 at Summerville at Chestnut Hill Assisted Living in Columbus.He was born June 18, 1920 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and had resided in Lorain since 1938.
James served with the US Army during World War II as a Tech 5 with the 638th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He saw action in the Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, the WWII Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
James worked at US Steel in Lorain in the Open Hearth and BOP Shop for 39 years retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church in Lorain, the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, VFW Post #1079 of Elyria and USWA Local #1104. He enjoyed dancing and bowling.
He is survived by his daughters Darlene Holp (John) of Stanwood, Washington and Shirley Royse (Ed) of Gahanna, 4 grandchildren: Christopher Holp, Matthew Holp, Amy Royse and Erie Royse and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Nagy (nee Brigant) on September 14, 1998, parents Imre and Martha Nagy (nee Polyak), brother Steve Nagy and sister Martha Hallasz.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where VFW Post #1079 of Elyria will conduct military honors.
