Clarice A. Benesh, 84, Active Volunteer In Greater Lorain

Photo of Clarice A. Benesh Clarice A. Benesh, (nee Klein), age 84, of Vermilion Township, and a former long-time Lorain resident, died Thursday Jan. 28th, 2010 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.

Mrs. Benesh was born in Lorain on March 20th, 1925 and had been a resident of that city for the majority of her life; she moved to Vermilion Township in July of 2009.

She was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1943.

Clarice was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church; she was well known for the countless hours that she spent as a volunteer with a variety of local community and civic organizations including the Bingo program at the Lorain Senior Center, the Jolly 60’s Social Club, Life Share, and the Retired Seniors’ Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.) where she received recognition for more than 6000 hours of service.

She was formerly active with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lorain Moose Lodge as well as the Knights of St. John.

In her free time she enjoyed travel, reading, tending to her numerous house plants, and growing flowers with a special fondness for roses. Perhaps her favorite pastime was socializing while playing games with her friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Diane Dillon (husband Harold) of Vermilion Township, and Penelope “Penny” Taylor (husband Larry) residing in Pataskala, Ohio, sons Jerome “Jerry” Benesh (wife Rose Marie) of Canton, Georgia and Ricky Benesh (wife Jill) of Lorain, along with nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, five great, great grandchildren, and her sister Bernadine “Bernie” Mast residing in Sheffield Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard C. Benesh in 1994, by her parents Leo and Oliva (nee Haas) Klein, and by a brother Leon Klein in 1986.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday February 1st beginning with closing prayers offered in the funeral chapel at 10:30 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Avenue. The Reverend Robert Glepko, Pastor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will take place later in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
