Warren E. Stanley, 86, US Steel Retiree
Warren E. Gene Stanley, 86, of Lorain, died Friday Jan. 29, 2010 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon.
He was born May 17, 1923 in Hazen, Arkansas and had moved to Lorain after World War II.
Gene served with the US Navy during World War II as a Yeoman Second Class. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and American Area Ribbon.
Gene worked at US Steel in Lorain as a pipe threader for 40 years retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Lorain where he was active with the church. He enjoyed walking.
He is survived by his daughter Cheryl McKim (Leonard) of Medina, son Gary Stanley (Chris) of Amherst, 5 grandchildren Lisa Yuhos, Jennifer Dooley, Tara McKim, Breonna Stanley and Blake Stanley, 4 great grandchildren, brothers Larry Stanley of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Irvin Bud Stanley of Belpre and sister Helen Gatlin of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his wife Janice Stanley, daughter Janet Dooley, son Jeff Stanley in 2007 and parents Roy and Florence Stanley (nee Edge) and sister Sybil Haynes.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2 - 5 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:30 am in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jay Roller, pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Lorain, officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain with military honors conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain.
