Lucilla A. Hlebcar, 89, Retired Elementary School Teacher

She was born March 22, 1920 in Fremont, Ohio and had been a Lorain resident for most of her life.

Lucilla was a graduate of the former Lorain High School. She received her Bachelor of Education degree from Kent State University.

She was employed as an elementary teacher for 27 years in the surrounding public and parochial school districts of Avon Lake and Lorain, and eventually retired from the Elyria Public School System.

She was a member of the Lorain County Orchid Society and the Italian American Veterans Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed games of chance and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughter Penny Braun (Robert) of Lorain, son Paul Hlebcar of Oakland, California, grandson Robert E. Braun (Kawaki) of Toledo and great granddaughter Victoria Braun.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. Hlebcar on Dec. 7, 2009, and parents Russell and Lucilla (nee Waserman) Jones.

Cremation will take place and the ashes will be buried at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
