Robert J. Underwood, 47, Loved the Outdoors, Nature and Hunting

Photo of Robert J. Underwood Robert J. Underwood, 47, of Spencer, Indiana, died Tuesday Feb. 2, 2010 at the Cleveland Clinic after a courageous 3-month battle with cancer.

He was born July 11, 1962 in Lorain and had resided in Spencer, Indiana for the past 12 years. He had also lived in Chicago, Illinois and California.

Bob was a 1982 graduate of Lorain High School. He served with the US Army from 1982-1986 and had been stationed in Germany for 2 years. He graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.

Bob was employed as an aircraft mechanic by AAR of Indianapolis, Indiana. Prior to that he had worked for 15 years for United Airlines in Indianapolis.

Bob resided on his homestead in Spencer with his two loyal dogs Copper and Bessie. His passions included growing and raising organic vegetables and livestock, homeopathic or holistic remedies and a love of the outdoors, nature and hunting. He enjoyed the art of cooking and had a strong interest in politics and government awareness.

He is survived by his mother Alice Simms (nee Dymiticuk) of Lorain, brother Ernest Underwood (Lisa) of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, sisters Lisa Mishak (Jerry) of Keller, Texas, Danette Windisch (Jared) of Ft Worth, Texas and Janelle Simms of Keller, Texas and nephews Christopher and Matthew Underwood and Nathan Simms.

The family will receive friends Friday 4 - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Bill Williams, pastor of Church of the Open Door in Elyria Township, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
