Catherine A. Miller, 74, Retired Secretary and Bookkeeper

Photo of Catherine A. Miller Catherine A. “Cookie” Miller, nee Mamrak, age 74, of Lorain, died Sunday Feb. 7th, 2010 at her residence following a short illness.

She was born in Sewickley Township, Pennsylvania on June 20, 1935 and had been a resident of Lorain since her childhood. She was a graduate of Clearview High School as a member of the Class of 1953.

For thirty-one years Mrs. Miller served as the Secretary and Bookkeeper for Miller Plumbing until her retirement in 2003.

She was a parishioner of Mary Mother of God Catholic Church; she was active with the Women’s Guild at the former St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Mary’s Commandry # 281 of the Knights of St. John.

She was extremely active with the Democratic Party on the local, state, and national levels and assisted in the presidential campaigns of John F. Kennedy and Jimmy Carter as well as Bill Brown’s campaign for Ohio State Attorney General.

Cookie also served as the coordinator and organizer for the Class of 1953’s reunions at Clearview. In her free time she enjoyed knitting and crocheting; additional interests included shopping, attending local bingo sessions, playing cards, and casino junkets.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years John R. “Sonny” Miller, by sons John C. and Todd Miller (wife Yesi) both of Lorain, daughters Cathy Miller (husband Moh Kussem) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Denise M. Kosakowski (husband John) of Lorain, seven grandchildren, and 2 great grandsons. She is also survived by brothers John Mamrak of Elyria, Larry Mamrak of Lagrange, Kentucky, and Robert Mamrak of Louisville, sisters Geraldine “P.G.” Fazekas of Columbus, Marlene Slavik of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Sharon Artar of Avon Lake, Michalene “Mikie” McKinnon of Phoenix, and Debbie Middleton, of Louisville.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Blondell (nee Coole) Mamrak, by and infant sister Amelia, and by her brother Michael “Buddy” Mamrak.

Friends may call Wednesday Feb. 10th from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, 8th Street and Reid Avenue with Reverend Robert Glepko, Pastor of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church presiding. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.
