Bert Dropco, 90, World War II Army Veteran

Bert Dropco, age 90, of Elyria, died Friday Feb. 12th, 2010 at his residence.

He was born in Lorain on April 4, 1919 and was a graduate of Lorain High School.

Bert was a World War II Army Veteran and was the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed as a bricklayer at United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works; he retired in 1981 following 40 years of service with the steel producer.

In his free time Mr. Dropco enjoyed fishing and hunting. Additional interests included feeding birds and other forms of wildlife that visited his property.

Survivors include his sister Constance Brodke of Lorain, his long-time friends and neighbors Ken & Carol Radabaugh, as well as several aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris M. (nee Beam) in 2006, by his father John Dropco in 1970, by his mother Mary Dropco (nee LaBaj) in 1963, and by his sister Lillian Blackwood in 1992.

Friends may call Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Reverend Laurie Miller, Pastor of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain where military honors will be conducted by Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
