Barbara Taylor Barrett, 87, Loved to Play Bingo and Knit

Photo of Barbara Taylor Barrett Barbara Taylor Barrett, 87, (nee Hellinger) of Amherst died on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at New Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph in Lorain.

Mrs. Barrett was born in Lorain on Jan. 24, 1923, the daughter of the late Harvey C. and Alta (nee Faulkner) Hellinger. She graduated from Lorain High School with the Class 1941-A.

She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School, was a member of Alter Guild, and other Women's Groups.

Mrs. Barrett worked at Esco Department Store in Lorain for more than 15 years in the jewelry and housewares departments.

She loved to play bingo, knit, do crossword puzzles, golf, travel and watch tennis on TV.

Mrs. Barrett is survived by her son Kenneth J Taylor (Peggy Springer) of Elyria, daughter-in-law Penny Taylor of Lorain, grandchildren Dawn Canterbury, Brent (Laura) Taylor, Kevin Taylor, Kyle Taylor, 6 great grandchildren, sister Iris Murray of Lorain, sister-in-law Mildred Hellinger of Lorain and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband John K. Taylor in 1974, her second husband William (Bill) Barrett in 1977, son Bruce Taylor in 1993, brothers Charles Hellinger and Harvey "Milky" Hellinger.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6th and Washington Streets in Lorain at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Madsen officiating.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to New Life Hospice, C/O Community Health Partners Foundation 3700 Kolbe Road Lorain, OH 44053-9905.
